Supervisor, Property Accounting

Salary up to $86,000 + Bonus + RRSP + Generous Vacation!!

Our client, a leading owner and operator of residential real estate assets across Canada, seeks a Supervisor, Property Accounting to join their busy team. The Supervisor, Property Accounting will oversee the work of 2-3 Property Accountants and will be responsible for financial reporting/full-cycle accounting for select critical investors. This is an exciting role within a fast-growing company, allowing the successful candidate to mentor and coach their direct reports and to implement and improve accounting processes. Responsibilities:

  • Manage, mentor and coach a team of property accountants; conduct reviews of their work, performance evaluations etc.
  • Ensure accounting transactions are recorded in conformity with the organization’s policies
  • Work closely with the Manager, Property Accounting to implement and improve accounting process with the view to increasing efficiency
  • Identify opportunities and alternatives within financial accounting to meet company objectives
  • Assist in compiling financial statements for external financial reporting purposes
  • Ensure month end accounting processes are completed in a timely manner through effective coordination
  • Analyze financial results on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, and prepare insightful reporting packages for senior management, including variance analysis
  • Develop more efficient financial reporting packages using strong proficiency with Excel (pivot tables, advanced formulas etc.)
  • Review the entering of non-recurring journal entries to the general ledger
  • Work on special projects as requested by the Manager, Property Accounting and Senior Management
  • Liaise with operational teams on monthly reporting and ongoing property performance
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Diploma and/or Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Property Accounting; experience in Residential Property Accounting an asset
  • Experience (formal or informal) in leading/managing a team with the ability to coach/mentor direct reports
  • Working towards Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA, or finalist)
  • Advanced computer skills (Word and PowerPoint), with proficiency in Excel
  • Familiar with property management and accounting software (experience with YARDI an asset)
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage conflict between different parties and bring to a successful conclusion
  • A self-motivated individual with a positive attitude and a strong desire to learn and grow
