Our client, one of the fastest growing companies in the investment industry and an active owner of global real estate assets, is seeking a Mortgage/Debt Accountant to be a part of their thriving finance and operations team for a temporary contract. In this newly created role you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of financial statements, reviewing NAV prepared by third party administrators and preparing monthly financial reports for the Executive team. 

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements (monthly and quarterly) and MD&A of investment entities.
  • Provide support and assistance in the annual audit process.
  • Review NAV prepared by third party administrator.
  • Prepare/post journal entries and process mortgage-related wires and invoices for investment entities managed in-house.
  • Monitor cash requirements for upcoming mortgage repayments and funding.
  • Analyze/make recommendations to minimize borrowing costs.
  • Prepare daily cash and position reconciliations on bank accounts.
  • Prepare/post mortgage transactions in the correct accounting systems.
  • Ensure the integrity of the accounting systems and accuracy of information by maintaining and developing controls.
  • Prepare pre-authorized payments to borrowers.
  • Reconcile/transfer investor funds and post fund-related accounting entries.
  • Prepare compliance certificates related to credit facilities on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare monthly calculation for dividend reinvestment plan.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients in a timely and professional manner; respond to/resolve queries or escalate if necessary.
  • Participate in special projects as required.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education in Accounting, Business, Finance or related area of study.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the financial services industry, with a focus on financial reporting/accounting and preparing or reviewing NAV.
  • Real estate industry experience and knowledge of mortgage lending practices is considered an asset.
  • Designated CPA or working towards designation.
  • Proficient with Excel; experience with Geneva and/or Yardi is also an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills with a positive attitude, willing to learn and take on new challenges.
