Medical Transcriptionist

Location: Toronto

Duration: 3 months with potential to extend

Compensation: $18 

Our client, a non-profit community agency, is looking for a Medical Transcriptionist to join their team on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Human Resources & Administration and will provide transcription and administrative support to the doctors and crisis unit.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, edit, and format letters, reports and summaries for the doctors and upload them to the client management system, by pre-established deadlines
  • File all reports in patient files 
  • Transcribe dictated reports for doctors (Neuropsychiatry, Admission summaries, Discharge summaries, Psychiatric assessments, Medical consultation notes, Family consultation notes, Progress notes, IEDP letters)
  • Edit and format reports and return to the doctors for review, correction and signature for inclusion in patients’ medical records
  • Review and edit transcribed reports or dictated material for spelling, grammar, clarity, consistency and proper medical terminology 
  • Review and process client admission documents for accuracy
  • Faxing of consent for disclosure forms, including school documentation
  • Creating physical and electronic client record
  • Adding/closing electronic crisis service plans
  • Disclosure of Discharge Summary documents 
  • Prepare client package for Review Board requests for lawyers, as requested (Retrieve client chart, scan and print documentation in patient’s chart & notify lawyers once the package is complete)
  • Serve as backup to the Receptionist for surveys, as required
  • Act as backup to Receptionist
    • Cover lunch and other absences, as required
  • Backup to Release of Information Department
  • Assist staff with various documents using MS Office
  • Other office duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Education in Science or Medical Administration
  • Minimum of 2 years administrative experience
  • Must have very strong attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with perfect spelling and grammar
  • Transcribing experience a definite asset
  • Intermediate MS Office skills
  • Demonstrating excellence working in a small team environment
