Hours: 8:30 am – 5 pm. 

Our client has been in the professional service industry for twenty years, with a distinctive client base. They have a close-knit team environment and growing rapidly. They are seeking an experienced Logistics Coordinator in their Truck Load Operations.

The Team Lead will report to the Manger of TL Operations and will primarily be responsible for ensuring material are shipped in the most efficient and cost-effective way. This position will provide employee training, ensuring that all applicable training requirements are met for a small team. This role will also ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal.

Must be available for after hour contact, when needed, during the week and on weekends, but minimal and just regarding a few pick ups.

Job Duties:

  • Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards
  • Provide employee training, ensuring that all applicable compliance requirements are met
  • Ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal
  • Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards
  • Develop strategic performance metrics and targets that are consistent with company goals
  • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly
  • Analyze departmental operations and identify areas requiring improvement
  • Oversee the planning of logistics of the trip; facilitate material movement planning and scheduling
  • Ensure that goods are shipped in the most efficient manner while targeting cost reduction, freight savings
  • Provide exceptional customer service by developing good working relationships with the clients and carriers
  • Plan and conduct meetings with employees to communicate team targets, goals, and projects
  • Comply with applicable legislation, including safe operation, carriage of goods, drivers' hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, customs and immigration, and weights and dimensions
  • Review schedule requisitions, cargo, running times, distances, personnel availability, and other pertinent information to establish schedule parameters
  • Receive requests for assistance or service; contact appropriate parties
  • Negotiate with transportation providers to obtain best rates and service/ providing spot quotes
  • Dispatch appropriate personnel in accordance with schedules, work orders, or as demanded by the nature of the situation
  • Assist with projects, such as rating and process improvement.

Qualifications:

  • 4 years of experience in logistics and transportation industry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc)
  • Strong organizational and resource planning skills
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress of all direct reports
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies
  • Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems
  • Ability to manage files from start to finish
  • Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring and motivation of employees
