Our client, one of the five leading Canadian banks, is looking for a Law Clerk (Banking) to join our Toronto team for a 6 month contract!

Pay Rate: $25.00/hour (Paid Weekly)
Contract Duration: 6 months with the possibility of extension
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm  

Must have good credit history and clear criminal record

Job Description:

As a member of the Power of Sale group you will work in a fast-paced legal environment delivering quality mortgage enforcement services to our client, the collection and recovery.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality service and professionalism at every interaction
  • Independently prepare litigation documents, notices of sale and correspondence, conduct legal searches, organize and catalog legal documents, correspond directly with customers, outside law firms, other Bank staff and agents, collect and track data
  • Independently assess files and appropriately manage the litigation as necessary
  • Prioritize and manage workflow to ensure quality and efficiency, meet deadlines and be flexible in adjusting to changing work priorities
  • Respond promptly and thoroughly to requests for information
  • Create/develop forms/tools and templates
  • Take initiative to identify and recommend improvements in job function
  • Use software programs and other departmental tools or equipment with ease, efficiency and provide appropriate documents/information that legal counsel and team members require
  • Sundry administrative duties as required

Job Requirements:

  • 1-2+ years legal experience from a Law firm
  • Experience drafting legal documents (i.e. statement of claims or judgement document, notice of sales)
  • Experience preparing litigation documents for Litigation, Mortgage enforcement & Title searching
  • Power of sale background (i.e. know how to do the legal work associated with selling a property)
  • Law Clerk designation from an accredited program
  • General computer literacy (MS Word/Excel, Internet Explorer)
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Experience with Techcom software system an asset
  • Tech-savvy and able to learn quickly
  • Above average comprehension ability, well organized with the ability to handle simultaneous tasks and able to manage workload independently
  • Detail oriented as drafting must be accurate
  • Able to demonstrate good judgement in collection matters
  • Able to work cooperatively with other staff members and have the flexibility to take on any task assigned to meet department needs
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with confidential matters with discretion
