Salary: $70K - $75K working 3 days per week including an option to work remotely once a week

Our client has been in the professional service industry for twenty years, with a distinctive client base. They have a close-knit team environment and growing rapidly. They are adding to the team by hiring a Controller who is under direction of the CEO.

Job Summary:

The Controller will be responsible to analyze and interpret financial and accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization. The Controller position will develop and control annual budget and long-term financial plans. Furthermore, this role will administer the organization's funds according to the approved budget and monitor its financial expenditures.

Job Duties:

  • Analyze and interpret financial and accounting information to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization
  • Develop and control annual budget and long-term financial plans
  • Administer the organization's funds according to the approved budget, and monitor its financial expenditures
  • Evaluate current business strategies, determining the viability of changing management initiatives
  • Develop and implement short- and long-term financial plans and forecasts in accordance with business goals and objectives
  • Provide leadership for strategic business development and corporate planning issues on major business decisions
  • Provide leadership in developing program, organizational, and financial plans
  • Set strategic objectives for the company and ensure that planning initiatives are implemented to maximize strategic growth
  • Coordinate the development of the operating and capital budgets
  • Prepare reports that outline financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations
  • Create or approve company-wide policies and procedures, ensuring they meet or exceed compliance requirements and best practice standards
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and professional organizations such as consultancy and auditing firms
  • Establish and maintain relationships with strategic business partners
  • Establish the financial and administrative controls of the company
  • Identify and evaluate risks to the company, both internal and external

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation required
  • MBA or an advanced degree in business, finance, accounting, or an industry-appropriate field considered as asset
  • Ten years of progressively more difficult management experience in the financial industry
  • Extensive experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, and asset management
  • Experience with coaching and development of management-level employees
  • Advanced proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheet programs and applications
  • Experience with budget preparation and management
  • Sound understanding of risk management
  • Strong formal and informal leadership skills
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability
  • Strong business acumen
  • High levels of stress and pressure
  • Attendance and conducting of presentations
  • Occasional travel
  • Operation of desktop computer and peripherals
  • Working in an office environment
