Position:  Purchaser/Buyer - Manufacturing

Location:  Finch & #427 area

Education:  Canadian Purchasing Professional (CPP),  Supply Chain Management or relevant certifications

Salary: Up to $68K depending on level of experience plus benefits, RRSP and profit sharing

Our client has been a Canadian-based manufacturer and supplier of building products for many decades.  They currently have manufacturing facilities and many sales centres across Canada which provide leading services to the North American architectural and building market.

The Buyer is responsible for the tactical procurement of commodities, supplies, equipment, and services to be used by the organization. The Buyer coordinates his or her efforts with Operations to maintain the appropriate level of inventory at lowest total cost with top quality.  This individual will utilize expert knowledge to purchase goods and services at the most favorable cost for the company, while simultaneously building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers.

The ideal “fit” in this department is either an experienced procurement professional with high energy, and enthusiasm, creative ideas, ambition and a sense of urgency.  You will compliment and support a team with two other Buyers; receive cross training and can grow.  There will be some administration involved with P.O.’s and reporting.

Here are the keys: Do you like to take initiative?  Do you possess buying expertise which includes building rapport with vendors to get the best service? Do you like to qualify and select suppliers, conduct negotiations; pushing back when needed?

Can you execute agreements at the most favourable cost for the company, while simultaneously building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers?

Have you dealt with sub-contractors?  Do you have purchasing experience in Manufacturing? 

Intermediate EXCEL skills, RFP experience, analytical skills; SAP is an asset.

Knowledge and awareness of LEAN/Continuous Improvement; 5'S, Kanban, JIT an asset

Working Conditions

  • Some travel may be required
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations
  • Will be required to wear protective equipment in designated areas such as: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection and steel toed safety shoes
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Overtime as required
