Medical Administrative Assistant
Duration: 3 months with potential to go permanent
Location: Downtown Toronto
Compensation: Up to $20 per hour, based on experience

Our client, a non-profit community agency, is looking for an Medical Administrative Assistant to join their team. The ideal candidate will be able to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, have strong computer and grammar skills and be customer-service oriented. If you are an organized, experienced medical-administrative professional with a can-do attitude, this may be the position for you!

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, edit, and format letters, reports and summaries for the doctors and upload them to the client management system, by pre-established deadlines
  • File all reports in patient files
  • Transcribe dictated reports for doctors
  • Edit and format  reports and return in either printed or electronic form to the doctors for review, correction and signature for inclusion in patients’ medical records
  • Review and edit transcribed reports or dictated material for spelling, grammar, clarity, consistency and proper medical terminology
  • Prioritize requests
  • Access client’s file to confirm DOB, chart #, service plan/documents available
  • Confer with authoring clinician (redacting of information, omissions)
  • Prepare release of information package, including cover letter
  • Log release particulars 
  • Scan and upload confirmation documents, including request and consent, into client's file
  • Prepare client package for Review Board requests for lawyers
  • Act as Backup to Receptionist

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of related experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook (intermediate level)
  • Typing speed of 50 wpm
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, mental health law or personal health information legislation an asset
  • Experience with databases an asset
  • Experience working with medical staff (i.e. psychiatrists, psychologists, neurologists, nurses, medical physicians, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Record/Scheduling an asset
  • Transcription/Dictatyping experience an asset
  • Impeccable English language/grammar skills
  • Experience with busy switchboard/reception a definite asset
  • Experience working with the public with exceptional interpersonal skills
